WipEout HD ImprEssions

I heard people having issues with the game freezing and online not working. But I didn’t have a chance to play this game until later last night. So maybe it was fixed by then, because I played for over a hour and it played flawlessly. I even tried online.

I created a game and I noticed there is a friend reserve type option. I thought cool, I can invite and reserve a spot for friends. But no, you can not, or I’m not seeing how to do it.

Anyway the gameplay is great, classic WipEout action in gorgeous 1080P. The have a few new weapons which are fun. The pilot assist mode is perfect for people new to the series, it helps steer you away from the walls. You can turn if off if you want. I finished the first 2 sections of the campaign, and got a few trophies for it already.

The photo above is from the zone mode which looks amazing in motion. The walls and street are just a huge music visualizer. You can see it in the photo. In the zone mode you are alone on the track and with each zone you clear your ship gets faster and the neon looking highway your on, changes color in front of your eyes, it’s a great effect! You just keep going until your ship takes enough damage to fall apart.

WipEout has been around since the PS1 days, I actually remember playing the demo that came with my brand new PS1 long ago before I got my first PS1 game (which was Twisted Metal for the curious).

I’m excited to put together a custom techno playlist for WipEout. In fact NeoGAF has already done that, check it out here.

In short buy this game. It’s a steal at $19.99. It’s everything you want in a futuristic racer and more.

Studio Ghibli & Level5 Making a Game !!11!one!

Hopefully this game will come to the PS3 :D I’m dying to see Studio Ghibli animation in a video game!

Other Source

Having spent my fair share of time enamored in the various imaginative worlds of both Level5 and Studio Ghibli, it is with great delight that I get to share news that will have fans weeping with happiness. Acclaimed development studio Level5, which was responsible for games like Dark Cloud, Jeanne D’Arc, and Professor Layton, and world-renowned animation house Studio Ghibli, known best for the likes of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, are teaming up to produce a new game called Ninokuni which will land in Japan next year.

Studio Ghibli will be handling all of the in-game animation for the game, which revolves around the magical exploits of a young boy. The game will ship with a fully illustrated book called The Magic Master which, judging by the scans from the latest Famitsu, will have a variety of shapes which represent spells to be cast in the game. The player will “need to refer to [the book] from time to time.”

Currently, the game is scheduled to release first on the Nintendo DS and then later on an “undecided” console. The two versions will be similar, both employing the aforementioned book, but Level5 has said that it wants to separate the console version from the handheld version in order to make both experiences worthwhile for a single player. Either way, though, it’s going to be impossible to resist the brainchild of two leaders in their respective industries.

Stephen Colbert in Rock Band

That’s right Stephen Colbert from “Colbert Report” has a music video for Rock Band called “Charlene” and it is a free download for PS3 & 360 users. I don’t have this game, but if I did this would be a instant download for me :)

Here is the video:

Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion Trailer and Info

The Bloodline Rebellion expansion of Tekken 6 will bring the total number of characters to 40, and 4 new stages with bring it to 16 total. The customization has been given a upgrade as well. This expansion will arrive at arcades in Japan this December. The PS3 version …. is late 09 :( I don’t even have Tekken 6 at the local arcade.

The 2 new characters are Alisa Boskonovich (I assume she’s Dr. Boskonovich’s daughter?), and she’s a fighting robot. And Lars Alexanderson is the other new character. Photo of them here:

If you watch the video below you’ll see some items moves. Xiaoyu’s item is funny. If it hits, it turns the opponents head into a panda head, lol. You’ll see Alisa Boskonovich’s item move at the very end too.

Life with PlayStation now out

I only checked this out for a couple minutes before work so I can’t give a full impression yet. But first thing I noticed is that it doesn’t have very many cities yet. It doesn’t list mine either. Hopefully they’ll add more cities over time.

It’s to bad you can’t add your own city via zip code to get the weather and news for your area. It’s just using Google news for the news in that area. Oh well, maybe in a later update?

A cool feature with Life with PlayStation is real time clouds all over the world. They are updated about every hour or so. That info is coming from University of Wisconsin. And the actual weather is from the Weather Channel. It also has a web cams for the supported cities to.

To update just start up Folding@home, after the update the icon will change to Life with Playstation. Let us know what you think.

Folding@home does run in the background so might as well join our folding team 55054 ;)

God of War III could be a long game

Nothing is known about this game really yet. Count on it being very bloody though. But now we know the script might be 120 pages long. The story will have 3 acts, so the story should be pretty epic.

I hope there is plenty of gameplay hours to go along with all that script. I’ve liked all the God of War games so far, I’m excited to see what they can do with the PlayStation 3.

God of War III’s script could be loooooong

Trophy Support in Games

When your looking to buy a game is trophy support a must or just a bonus? I’ve noticed some people on forums say they will not buy a game if it doesn’t have trophy support.

Ideally every game from here on out should have trophies. But if it doesn’t will it alter your decision to buy the game at all? For me personally, if it’s a fun game I’ll get it. But it is rewarding to win trophies, it forces you to play the game in different ways you normally wouldn’t. I played Warhawk with a friend last night getting some of the harder trophies and it was very fun. Sniping at 2500 feet is hard, lol.

One thing I’m curious about with trophies is the levels. I just got to level 4, and how is that calculated? Will that incorporate with Home somehow? Anyway what are your thoughts?
