I had a feeling it wasn’t going to fully ready by spring. I was thinking there was going to be a open beta at least. Now it’s pushed back until fall. I can see delaying it because it’s not ready. But at least let us look at it. We know it’s Beta, and everything isn’t 100% yet. Home has great potential but Sony sure is taking there time.
“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition.”
I’ve always liked unique marketing and this is is very unique. Can you spot the all the Playstation shapes? I can’t seem to find the circle. Hopefully we’ll see this is motion later

There is rumor going around that the PS Store will be redesigned in April, and have the same look and feel as the Singstar store. Check out the video below for the Singstar store.
I really love the look of that store, the sooner the PS Store losses the web interface and switches to the PS3 OS the better. The current PS Store is honestly boring to look at and browse. But at least it has some great content from time to time. Also rumored is the long awaited video downloads. This will just be for North America for now. No concrete details from Sony on any of this yet though.
The update will arrive next week and will include a lot of things. The user interface is better and graphics have been upgraded too. You can check who’s online from your friends list and you can tell if there just online or in Home.
But the most interesting part is the new Marketplace in the main square. Once your inside you can get clothes, furniture and other things. Maybe the PlayStation Store will be moved in there eventually? Also they are working on Game Launching, and some games work some don’t. But it’s a start. I hope there is a open Home beta soon.
The photo below is from the Game Developers Conference. Is it a hint that it’s coming soon? Or just a joke? Either way I want that shirt, lol.
There are rumors that In Game XMB is finished and will arrive with the next firmware update. Future games coming out wlll support it, and past titles will receive a patch.
I mainly want In Game XMB for checking to see if my friends are online, what they are playing, check and write messages, etc. It would be nice to have access to the web browser in game as well.
I know my gf would like to have custom soundtracks in Toy Home, so I hope that happens as well
This is pretty cool tech. Somebody has already done this with a Wii controller. Put this guy proved the PS3 can do it to. He used a PlayStation Eye and PS3 dev kit. He was even nice enough to release the code to the PS3 Developers Network. Hopefully we’ll see some cool games come out of this Imagine being able to peak around corners in FPS games or even MGS.
I think Sony’s PS3 has a lot going for it in 2008. Some great games are coming out this year. Just to name a few:
2 Days to Vegas
Alone In The Dark
Army of Two
Burnout Paradise
Devil May Cry 4
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit
Dynasty Warriors 6
Eyedentify
Fallout 3
Final Fantasy XIII & Final Fantasy Versus XIII (if out in 2008)
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Gran Turismo 5
Grand Theft Auto IV (more…)
Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online (MGO) will be one game. MGO will be integrated into MGS4. Online will support 16 players in the following modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and Team Sneak. You can customize your character with up to three skills from a large selection. A couple examples are “Marathon” which allows you to run faster or longer (not sure), and “Narc” which reveals the location of the enemy trying to kill you. They’ll be over 100 different weapons you can use online.
The magazine includes a 2008 PlayStation calendar, nice too. There are some tips to creating custom classes in Call of Duty 4 as well.
But the biggest surprise is the photo below!
MetalProxy noticed that my Kanji Theme was in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Jan. 2008 with MSG4 on the front! I’m on page 11 in the bottom right. Here is a scan of it, click on the image for the full version.
