PSN Friends List Feature Wish List

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. So I thought I finally share it. I created a quite mock up image to help get my idea across.

Right now the friends list is maxed at 100 I think, which is good. But if you do have that many friends. It’s hard to remember who everyone is, what games you play together, etc.

As you can see in the image above there is a notes section to help you remember that person. The notes will also show in the master friends list when you highlight that person.

Then a “Games Played Together” section which will automatically fill in games you have played with that person with the most recent at the front. When you highlight the game icon a small pop-up will show the name of the game. It will show all the games ever played together, so if the list gets longer that the profile box, you’ll need to press the right or left directional button to scroll threw them.

When in that section you press the R1 button to go the next tab, and this will show which games your friend are playing at the moment. This should update automatically as well, say all the games played in the last month. With the most recent game listed first. Same type of layout too.

The last tab I’m not sure, any ideas? Maybe they can list future games they are thinking about buying. Or maybe a link to your own personal forum that’s contained in the XMB that only your approved friends can post in.

How do you think the friends list could be improved?

PS3 gets more YouTube love

Now you can watch YouTube on your PS3 in full screen :) Still in the Beta stage, but check it out and let us know how it is. Seems pretty cool to me.

How to get Namco Arcade Cabinets in Home

First off don’t download it from the Japanese PlayStation store. Download it from the Hong Kong store. Why because the Arcade Cabinets only work with the Hong Kong version. So make a HK PSN account and search for a big N, it should be under New Releases still. Download it, but only play it under your own personal account, so the stuff you unlock can be used in Home.

There are 4 games to play, and since it’s a beta, only the first 2 stages are available. You can play Pac-Man, Galaga , Dig Dug, and Xevious. There are 4 unlockables for each game. I managed to get them all finally. It also unlocks things to decorate your pad, plus t-shirts, pants, and a hat.

A note though, in order for your guests to play the arcade cabinets, they need to have the HK Namco Museum Beta on there PlayStation 3. But when you play the games in Home, it actually launches the Namco Museum Beta application, but it takes you right to that game. I wish it was like the arcade cabinets in the bowling ally, where it just zooms into the screen and you play. But since this is a Beta, maybe the final release with support this. I hope they bring it to all the regions. It’s a great idea! Here is what they look like, click photos for a full size view.

Rumor: T-Minus 9 days until Home Open Beta?

The Times Online seems to think Home is coming by December 17th. Not sure where they got that date. But you never know, Sony has reaffirmed a couple times that the Home Open Beta is still coming in 2008. I would hope it’s out before the holidays at least.

I wonder if they’ll add more content to the online stores in home when it hits open beta. I want to get that Japanese style home :)

Red Bull Aeroplane Racing in Home

Red Bull will have the first advertising space in Home. That’s the biggest photo I could find though sorry. Hopefully it’s ready for when Home goes open Beta sometime this month.

Red Bull has built a tropical island, featuring an aeroplane racing game based on Red Bull’s real world Red Bull Air Race series.

I hope more dedicated spaces like this are coming. This is exactly the type of stuff that needs to continue to happen to keep peoples interest in Home over time. Home is fun when you have friends to share it with online, don’t get me wrong, but I’m thinking way down the road.

Yellow Dog Linux updated to v6.1

I actually don’t have Linux on my PS3 anymore, but next year I’d like to upgrade my hard drive again to a 300 GB or so and put Linux back on. While I had Linux (Ubuntu actually) I didn’t use it much. But lately I wish I did have it just for general web browsing and chatting when the wife is using the other PC. Because the PS3 web browser still needs work. Sony just put Firefox on it and call it good.

I’m not sure if I’ll go with Yellow Dog Linux or Ubuntu. Ubuntu offers more support than Yellow Dog Linux. But YDL is made specifically for the PS3. Anyway here are the primary updates to YDL, and it’s now available for download.

“For end users, Yellow Dog Linux v6.1 offers an updated Firefox and OpenOffice.org, a vastly improved graphical wireless configuration tool, and the introduction of ps3vram functionality which enables use of PS3 video RAM for temporary storage or swap.”

Home Beta 1.0 Live

If you live in the U.S. and download the official Home theme or you purchased a annual Qore membership before October 29th. Check your e-mail for a invite they are being sent now. For details on the 1.0 update check out this link.

I like the updates, the clubhouse is a great idea. The virtual PSP being axed is fine, it didn’t need to be there really. I see the reason for it, but not the best way to navigate menus within home.

So let us know if you get into home and we’ll have to meet up in Home :)
